HOW COMMON IS URIC ACID ?
It is relatively common
Before we understand why your body needs uric acid – Uric acid is an antioxidant that your body,
immune system, and tissues need to function well and reduce inflammation. But remember, too much of
anything can become a problem.Many people are found to have high uric acid in their blood test reports
and consult a doctor. You are given medicines to treat it, but these alone will not help you. It may
suppress your symptoms, control pain, or make your blood reports look good, but it won’t address your
root cause. For lasting results you will have to change your lifestyle.
Uric acid is very common these days and if not treated on time may lead to gout. Uric acid is a waste
product of body produced by breakdown of purines.

PREVENTION OF HIGH URIC ACID LEVELS:
○ Limit purine rich foods – Limit intake of purine rich foods such as spinach, fish, shellfish etc
○ Avoid sugar – Avoid sugar as it increases the sugar levels and leads to higher uric acid levels
○ Avoid alcohol – Limit alcohol completely as it’s consumption can increase uric acid levels
○ Add more fibre to your diet – Adding fibre in diet helps to maintain and lower the uric acid levels
○ Boost vitamin C intake- Increase vitamin C rich diets in your diet such as amla, oranges, kiwi, lemon,
tomatoes, green leafy vegetables etc Boost folic acid (broccoli, green leafy vegetables, kidney beans),
omega 3 (fish, nuts, plant oil).
○ Manage your weight – if obese or overnight then manage your weight as it may lead to uricemia.
○ Proper hydration – Drink sufficient amount of water, that may help dissolve uric acid
○ Exercises – Low to moderate intensity exercises like yoga, cycling, walking may help lower uric acid
levels.
